Since 2020, Stead’s work has been principally occupied with themes of sustainability exploring ideas across biodiversity, threatened species and habitat loss. Her first exhibition in a regional gallery, held in 2021, saw her collaborate with a local ecologist to develop a body of works depicting locally threatened species painted onto salvaged objects.
Through Regional Futures, she is interested in further exploring social change through the arts. Stead will work with Tania Hartigan, Wallabadah, to develop a creative response to the conversations across their community that explore the variable understandings of sustainability and the implications that arise from the lack of a common language.
